Occu-Med was founded in 1977 to provide Occupational Health services to employers in Southern Ontario. In the 32 years since, our company and our services have grown, and we are now Ontario's leading provider of Mobile medical surveillance programs. We are one of Ontario's leading providers of mobile hearing testing and health & safety training and consulting services to employers across Canada, and we own one of Canada's leading publishers of WHMIS training materials. Together our divisions serve thousands of clients across Canada - ranging from large multinationals to small owner-managed businesses.
1977 |
Dr. Victor Vigna launches Vigna Management Inc. to provide occupational health services to employers, and to become "the company doctor" for local employers. |
1983 |
Company is renamed to Occu-Med Mobile Health & Consulting Services Inc. and begins to provide clients with audiometric and mobile hearing testing services, as Dr. Vigna takes on partners. |
1987 |
Occu-Med begins providing mobile health testing services in Ontario, with a particular focus on mobile and onsite medical surveillance programs required by law. |
1994 |
Millenia Technologies acquires a minority stake held by company's founder as part of turn-around effort. Company undergoes complete re-organization, and 40% of company is acquired by a venture capital firm. |
1995 |
As part of re-organization, company is re-launched as Occu-Med Health Services Inc., a new mission is established and services are simplified. |
1999 |
Occu-Med acquires Canwit Consulting Corporation, a provider of WHMIS and TDG training materials and services to clients across Canada. |
1999 |
Occu-Med acquires Aware Learning Technologies, a leading provider of Computer-Based Training for Health & Safety. Aware provides training products to over 500 large employers across Canada. |
2000 | Occu-Med acquires the Assure Health's Laird Clinic and the occupational health operations of Assure Health Management Inc. Occu-Med extends the acquired services into a National Clinic Network to provide Employee Medicals across Canada. As part of these transactions, AHMI becomes a significant shareholder in Occu-Med (this interest is later transferred to Telus, which acquired AHMI). |
2004 |
Occu-Med moves its growing Safety Training services into Safety Training Solutions, a new division that focuses on instructor-led safety training for Ontario workplaces. |
2008 | Occu-Med launches new Mobile Health unit as second "medical clinic on wheels", 1 including Mobile X-Ray unit. |
2010 | Onsite workplace medical services are launched - including nursing placement services for employers requiring a nurse on a part-time basis. |
2011 | Occu-Med implements a new electronic medical records system, and digitizes over 1000 records per month. The new system improves ability to find employee health records, which can now be found in minutes regardless of when patients were seen. |
